Our new 2008 Fiesta came with one remote key plus one plain ( buttonless ) key.
If the car is locked with the remote key's button and unlocked with the plain key, the alarm sounds.
The dealer initially said that this was a fault. Now they say that this is correct and that if we want to switch keys we need to lock without using the remote's buttons.
Is this correct ?

If this is correct, then we would like to buy a second remote key.
The dealer says that this involves an hour's labour to program. The handbook says it involves just turning and swapping keys in the ignition.
Which is it ?

The dealer is not being overly helpful, and Ford.co.uk are just referring me back to the dealer.

Any help gratefully received.

hi there, if you have two keys (and you do) then you can program a third key into the system, by doing a quick google search or wait a bit till some one on here comes along they will tell you exactley how to do it, all i can remember is you turn your ign on and off six time sor summin in 4 seconds then press this on one key and that on another key but either way dont pay ford to do it, it is pretty straight forward

garry, thankyou for your response
the handbook details that very procedure
what's not clear is if that programs both the remote buttons and the immobiliser within the key ?

just to close this
ford explained the procedure to the dealer, and the dealer did the keys in the ignition trick as per the handbook
i was saved the hour's labour, and hopefully others will be too
