Mondeo Mk3 04 2.0TDCi (130) 6-speed gearbox (?) popped
Discussion
My daily driver (not the reason I am on PH
) Mondy won't go into gear. The local stealer (I took it there cos they had done warranty work on the clutch before the warranty expired) reckons it is to do with gearbox and will require £450 to strip it prior to diagnosis. I said f off and am having it recovered. Car has 80k miles on it. When I was looking at buying a similar car it was off the road due to gearbox issues also, is this a common fault?

Mine popped the other week (2001/51 Mondeo)- turned out to be the gear linkage (rusty ball/socket) - v. small job. AA man did a temp. repair which lasted a week. -presume this has been checked tho'?
I don't trust the stealer... I asked them to elaborate on how they came to the conclusion that it was the box and not clutch and the bloke started telling me how many years experience their consultant tech had, like I had insulted his authority. They have tried to have me over before like half an hours labour to fit bulbs and investigation fees and the like. Only reason I took it there is because they had worked on the clutch in the past, and I was hoping it would be related to might be covered under parts warranty. Clearly they would rather have the £450 and then have a think about it afterwards. I am getting it recovered to a mate's small garage who I trust.
