HIGH RPM ON IDLE WHEN HOT...

escort 1.8si estate 98 starts fine and idles perfect when cold soon as up to temp the fun begins... will first idle at 800 ish fine..
rev the car to say 2k and come off throttle it stays at 2k same at 2.5k 3 k etc etc same while driving ..however if the engine is loaded and underload drops to say 1k...push in clutch and it will iddle at that !!1.5k the same 2k the same etc etc cant see the cable sticking had the idle valve replaced and ecu thingy... any thoughts ???

just read other idle topic think prev owner had idle valve out I will remove and clean where is it found thanks again in advanve

Sounds like the same engine as in the Mondeo 1.8i of the same year. I'm about to take out and clean my Idle Control Valve for the same, but not as extreme reason.

try cleaning the conections/replacing the road speed sensor on the gear box. mines on a 1996 escort and is located on the front bottom of the box a dose of wd-40 cleared the crud and alls been well since....
