Hi, i have a focus st and after 2 years it has developed a few minor rattles. When i last took it for a service i asked the ford dealer if they could look into a few of these noises and they told me something along the lines of trim was not covered by warranty. I like the car but want to get these annoying minor couple of noises sorted. Is it a case of paying a garage to look into it or is this sort of trim rattling a warranty job and they are just trying to fob me off? I cant find any details of the warranty. Thanks

Welcome to the inevitability of Focus ST ownership.

Mine's just passed 68k and rattles like a good 'un. Just press the pedal on the right and make the engine louder. smile

You can stop quite a few of them yourself... i found one of the rear pocket lids was ratteling...

I went out and bought some thin sticky foam stuff and stuck it around the lip of the lid (that stopped that rattle)

There was also a rattle above the light, same again, took the cover off and wrapped some foam stuff around the cables, now that rattle has gone.

They never seem to want to fix anything under warrenty... i too had the "wear and tear" thrown at me, and "there is nothing we can do, we can take it in and charge you by the hour"

Fook that!

Is the rattle coming from the back of the car?

As I have found out the warranty is pretty much worthless after the first year I'm afraid, unless it is a major mechanical problem or a major defect.

At our dealership it took two of us to find a rattle at the back of a Focus ST. We eventually found that two clips were missing from the rear wheel arch liner. Just to the left of the centre of the wheel on the wheel arch. Its common and for some reason every focus that leaves the factory doesn't have them fitted. Could be worth looking out for that.

The car would never be the same if the interior has been pulled out and put back in.

Cost cutting? My 220 was the same, seems it's acceptable to miss a few off to save pennies no doubt.

took my ST to the ford dealership to try and cure a few rattles and hopefully sort out my stereo which sometimes says cd error at me.

anyway i asked them on the phone to call me if anything was going to cost me money and wasnt under warranty, then i said this again when i went to drop off the car.

they then called me to say the car was ready for collection and so i went to get it.

got there to be handed a bill for £150 for 2 hours labour.

asked them what they were thinking and managed to get the bill down to £80.

i was not too happy as i had asked them to tell me if something was going to cost me any money, but anyway i am happy overall as i got rid of a good few rattles for my £80.

cheeky buggers though.

Did they call you to tell you it was non-warranty labour work? If not, I'd have contested the entire bill. You asked them to call you if they were going to do something that wasn't covered by the warranty and they didn't. They just 'did it' and sprung the bill on you (which I would guess was exactly the situation you were trying to avoid).

I'd have refused to pay at all, given that you asked twice to be called should anything be chargeable.

i know but to be honest i couldnt be bothered to get in an argument as i had had had a long day and was just glad most of the rattles are gone.

i would be very interested to know what had happened if i had point blank refused to pay the bill though.
