Need some Legal Advice on RTC

I would have put this in the legal forum but i dont have access -

I live in Merseyside UK.
I was involved with in a RTC last week. I was travelling within the speed limit 55mph in a 60 mph zone I was in the nearside lane of the A580 going from Liverpool toward Manchester.

A gentleman driving a white unmarked van pulled out of a side road onto a dual carrigeway and i ended up running into back of his van, he admitted to the police and to myself and a witness that it was his fault and we thought that was that.

Now i have learnt he is saying it wasnt his fault and i was at fault. I have a copy of his police stop form and under "reason for stop" on his form is 01 - Suspected Traffic Offence. Mine is 02 - Check personal details/documents.

He has admitted to the police in the back of the traffic car that attended that it was his fault - I am guessing under caution, so where do i stand?

Generally running into someone is seen as your fault unless they drove in a dangerous manner and caused you to do so.

I would stick to your statement given to the police and allow your insurance company to follow this up for you. We have had a similar incident with a company vehicle and the insurance company have now instructed a barrister to deal with the other parties insurers who wanted us to settle on a 50-50 share of liability.

thwe gent came out of a side raod as i said with no way of me stopping the witness - the car in the outside lane missed him in ches and she was behined me starting to overtake me, she even said to the police i had no chance whatsoever of stopping.

I ran into the back of a van on the a1m after he lost control in the inside lane just as i was overtaking him. The reason i couldnt stop in time is because he hit the barrier!. A police car was only a few cars behind me and witnessed the whole thing happen but even though i had witness statments from both police officers my passenger and an independent witness it still ended up going against my insurance as a fault claim. It went to court and because i went into the back of him that was that. I must admit that the guy my insurance co had representing me was pretty useless though.
