My brother in law is looking to buy on its going to be about a 2005, i have a st220 so i know the car but whats to look out for on the diesel engine side.

When does the cambelt need changing etc etc in relation to mileage.

I know on some of the older diesel cars you had to have the special red key to re-program diesel pumps is this still the same.

Any info greatly appreciated.

T/y.

Does not have a cambelt, chain driven. The pump requires programming but only if theres major work done, this does not require a key just the right diag equipment.
A genrally good engine but sometimes have problems with injectors which can cause some scary engine shut done faults (can happen at any time including at 70 mph!) although i think they stopped this happening on the later ones, clutchs are expensive due to being a pain to do and the dual mass flywheels are expensive. Alternator belt tensioners ce noisey but can be caused by the crank damper/ pully.
