XR2i keeps stalling help needed

Hi all
I have a 1991 xr2i 1.6 8v i have a problem with it keep stalling when i come off the gas and dip the clutch it does not do it all the time but its getting slowly worse
I took off the idle control valve and cleaned it all out with loads of Gunk about 3 - 4 times got loads black crap out of it checked it all worked ok then refitted but still same problem.
I have a k&n air filter fitted but the breather from the rocker cover does not run back into the filter like the original ford one could this be the probelm??
once it stalls it always starts fine straight after

im gonna pick up a second hand icv and try that but am sure i have already tried this
