Disconnect Battery To Reset ECU???

The old girl (2004 tdci 130 Mondeo) is sounding a little rough at tickover. Have heard that if you disconnect the battery for 30 mins (making sure you have the radio code etc) it will reset everything??

Anyone heard of this??

I took the battery off the fiesta, The ecu was fked after. Still havn't fixed it .
