Mk1 Focus, Revs rise when braking at junctions?
Discussion
Hi, heard of the same problems with the Zetec S
Could be a number of things as well as ICV
TPS
MAF
Dirty fuel filter
Crank sensor = underneath starter motor - often ruled out but can be the cause of problems
It is normal for these engines to fluctuate around 100 rpm, but 2/3 k at junctions is not right.
Clean/ replace those parts and it should be ok.
Hope this helps a litte

I think it might be an air leak.
There's a lack of engine braking, revs might climb when coasting as the car is rolling, hence more air is forced into the leak? Sound like a good theory?
I take notice of it, because I like my car running right

Ive got the same problem with my Focus but nobody seems to believe theres a problem when I say theres barely any engine braking. Sometimes at junctions the car seems to want to stall while at other times the revs will briefly stick at around 2000rpm with my foot down on the clutch. There's a lack of engine braking, revs might climb when coasting as the car is rolling, hence more air is forced into the leak? So far ive looked for air leaks by spraying wd40 around the engine bay but theres nothing and I have replaced the positive crank case valve but still the problem is there. Also ive checked for fault codes with my bluefin handset but the ECU is clear of faults. The next thing im going to do is clean out the ICV when the gasket finally turns up, il let you know how I get on.
