Hi
As the title suggests I have just removed the engine and transmission from a fiesta for the first time. The suspension is still all connected up. I want the car to roll but is this possible without the driveshafts in as the hub wiil surely just fall out of the hub carrier meaning the wheels fall off?

Is there a way to prevent this form happening as its a restoration and it will shortly be going to the bodyshop so it needs to roll

Many thanks

if u want it to stil roll u can split the driveshaft cv boot at the hub end and then pull the joint apart and wrap both sides so that no dirt can get in
hope that helps

Don't be silly! If you've left the half shafts attached to the hubs you will have to stop the inboard ends moving around as you move the car (and they would flail all over the place at any sort of speed - towing is out of the question) but they have nothing to do with keeping the wheels attached to the car.

well if it was me I would try and get some spare drive shafts, strip them down so that you only have the splined end that is then broke at the cv joint, as ong as you fit the castle nut with a pin you will be fine. Pretty much the same suggestion as the first comment.

Hi
What would you suggest GREEN V8 as a better way?
I would ideally be towing it to the bodyshop soon you see

Cheers

If you only want to roll it a few yards I'd just tie the inner ends of the drive shafts up so they were free to turn but weren't resting on anything, or just be careful and watch the inner ends don't flail around too much and damage something.

For towing (i.e. more than a couple of mph and more than a few yards) I would split the half shafts from the stub axles at the outer CVs.

Is the car mot'd taxed and insured. If it is not you do not really want to be towing it on the road anyway as its illegal. What also is the condition of the car in terms of being roadworthy?.
Might be best to just get a flatbed tow truck.
