Im thinking of buying a non-runner / spares or repairs Mk2 XR2 and fitting an RS Turbo engine. I can get hold of an engine easily enough but was wondering what parts i'd need off the RS Turbo to complete the conversion and which would be better to go for, the Escort or Fiesta Engine as they use different management?
How hard a job is this conversion and what modifications would i need to make to the XR2 before doing it?
A couple of mates of mine are gonna help me with the conversion as they're more mechanically minded than me, ones an ex Ford M-Sport rally team mechanic and the other races in the Ford saloon car championship and has all the necessary equipment (hydraulic ramps etc..) in his unit.
Any advice before i start out would be really helpful.
Cheers, Tom.

You'd be better off with a 2.0 Zetec and running it on carbs.

Twin 45's?
Guess the 2litre mondeo zetec is a cheaper option, not sure if i'd run it on carbs tho.

I don't know much about it as all my cars are standard and I don't believe in altering them from original but I know several people who run them on bike carbs.

Get yourself over to XRTwo.com or XROC forum...

Just buy a nice clean one like mine and leave it standard.
They are getting rare now and may eventually be worth something soon.

Totall agree with the poster above. Buy now whilst they are still cheap enough and keep it standard.

I have a 1984 B plate mk2 which is one of the very earliest remaining cars which makes it worth a bit more.
And it's in black which is the best colour wink

im not interested in buying one as an investment, if i buy one it will be a spares/repairs or non runner as im looking for a project over the winter. always liked the xr2 but want something with a bit more performance so an rs turbo converted one would be ideal.

I have a Mk2 XR2 with an 1800 Zetec (130) in it, and a Quantum with the 1.6 Efi FRST engine in it just on a standard T2. The XR has more power low down the rev range, has better overall performance and is supposedly more reliable (although I have a suspicion the HG isnt entirely in one piece)

Unless you're going to fit a T3/T34 and do something silly to the CVH, the Zetec will be more useable, cheaper to run and easier to fix. The downside is modifying the engine mount, and working out whether you'll need to relocate the battery to the boot. Depending on whether you go silvertop or blacktop there may be a couple of other alterations you need to do (waterpump/alternator/exhaust etc)

In either case, you'll need the complete loom and ECU from whatever you're using as a donor.

Rare, hens teeth rare in good condition. AFAIK (and it's only from reading) the R5 carb is the best option
