Your geeky Ford facts please....
Discussion
Ok I'll probably get a bit of stick for this but its only a bit a fun. Me and a mate have a bit of a thing about finding geeky facts about Fords, well mostly the RS/XR/ST models, and then seeing if the other already knows them. So if you have any facts and they do have to be facts!! could you post them up please thanks

More mk1 Escorts facts then!
The very early November 1967-1968 models had:
The door locks were incorporated in the push button on the handle, later models were seperate underneath.
The bonnet release was at the front grille, later models were cable operated from inside.
The early van had a square hole in the radiator for a cranking handle!!
The early models had the two round heating vents on the dash, just like later ones, but couldn't be shut off.
Up to 1970 the switches were a different size to later models.
Up to 1970 the door handles were a different size to later models.
The rare 1300 Sport had a standard 2 dial dash with an auxillery rev counter bolted to 1 side!
Up to around March 1968 Escorts had compression struts on the front instead of an anti-roll bar. (very rare to find one with this set up now!)
Hope those facts are ok?!

Ford made 3 MK1 Escort Mexico estates for evaluation purposes. Out of those 3, one was returned to Ford & converted to an RS2000 estate! Still survives to this day! Prob not the sort of facts you were after, but thought very geeky!
One of the Mexicos is at Lavenham Show every year.

According to my man at Ford (works in the heritage centre) the RS2000 wasnt built by them, and the one at Lavenham (I saw in today there the yellow one) has been done by someone else rather than Ford

Quite right - it's at a local garage awaiting restoration.
