My girlfriend's 2002 1.8 Focus hatchback has just failed it's MOT on a 'nearside rear suspension bush'.
Garage has quoted £113 + VAT to repair.
Looking at our trusty Haynes Manual (Yes I know you can't always rely on them) it says that individual bushes cannot be removed and the whole arm must be replaced.
Can a Ford mechanic advise firstly on replacement cost, and are individual bushes available. And also on how long the job should take. I am aware that there is a manual which gives times for various jobs on any car.
The garage told my girlfriend that it is a 2 hour job.

Hi, you can replace just the bush, it is a bit of a headache but yes it can be done, although i would suggest replacing both. I have personally done this job a few times now at work and the easiest way is to drop the whole rear subframe, burn the old ones out and press the new ones in with a bush puller. That is a fair price and it does take around 2 hours, most of that time is removing and refitting the subframe. Ask how they do it tho as ive heard from other sources that people try to remove the arm and every bolt will snap. As most of the bill will be made up of labour time it may be worth asking how much extra for the other side as you will prop have to do it next year.

Hope that helps a bit,
Garry

Hi I have just done this my self last night, got two complete wishbones with all bush's ford genuine part of ebay for £40

it took me 3 hours, I had to drop the subframe on the passengers side only and take a couple of engine mounts off to gian access two bolt!

Bottom ball joint pinch bolt was a pain in the arrssrsrsrsr, you will nead a torqe bit and a good quailty set of sockets with the hex pattern otherwise you will damage the nuts as they are that tight!

The op is talking about the rear of the car.
