LPG would be about the only way to reduce fuel costs on the 170.

That will lose you a little power and cost around £1500, best to spend that money on either making the most of the 170 or changing to a more economical motor.

What sort of driving do you tend to do and how bad is it currently?

250 sounds low especially driving sensibly, 250 miles was my worst tank and that was almost all B road thrashing in fact I once covered just over 300 miles at an average speed of over 90 (on the continent)and managed that on one tank. I would have a look at the motor and get a good service/check up before chasing an economy remap on a car tuned for extra power.

Mine used to average around 250 miles to a tank so it doesn't sound too bad. However,i found that everyone i spoke to had different ideas about fuel consumption with these cars.
As suggested it may be a good idea to get it serviced and checked over before spending money on re-maps and the like.

I get 360 to 380 miles on a tank with mainly fast A road driving, some motorway and some town driving.

Fuel economy is one of the big plusses of the ST170 for me...
