I need a motorway workhorse for a long commute and have decided on a mk1 Focus 1.8 tdci. However, is there a way to find out if a potential car is the 100 or 115bhp (preferred) model prior to viewing? The owners tend not to know and I don't want to waste trips.

Cheers

You could ask them to look under the bonnet, the engine output is clearly marked on the plastic engine cover.

Please take it on a test drive though. There are so many reports of Mk 1 1.8 turbo diesels that are horrible to drive, with no power until the engine is a fair way up the revs. This makes smooth acceleration away from junctions etc very clumsy.

I've got a mk1 Focus Edge edition with the 115ps TDCi engine - some editions only came with the 115ps engine and not the 100ps - Parkers will tell you which.

Good choice by the way, i love my car smile
