Ka Gearbox funny

My PA (I'm asking because it causing work problems!) has a 54 Ka. It keeps refusing to go into gear in stop start traffic. Evidently it's OK in normal traffic, and once you DO manage to get it into a gear and drive on for a bit it goes back to normal. Any ideas? Evidently AA and garage haven't traced the problem...

Is there enough oil in the gearbox?

I would imagine a possible hydraulic problem but i have done a few gearboxs on Ka's normally due to gears becoming hard to select. Any garage should be able to confirm what it is with a quick look.
