I have a focus 1.8 tdci 03 110k , I have had it for 3 month's now and given it a full service glow plugs etc, it has had a new cluch and flywheel just before I bought the car.

The the problem is it's bad staring from cold just wind and wind it eventuly starts and runs a little ruff and a bit smoky for a few seconds ,

Then it run's fine with no smoke allways starts at the touch of the key when hot and goes really well any idea's.

Not trying to be funny but could you try editing that so that it's more than just the one sentence. It really doesn't make much sense as it is.

It sounds like the glow plugs, was it like it before you changed them and if not when did it start being difficult to start.

Agree with JagRacer, it sounds like glow plugs. Although my Focus TDCI generally doesn't start as well/quickly as my VW TDI, I certainly don't have to crank more than 2 seconds to get it started.

Totally different car but *exactly* the same fault in every way that you described, my mate's VW Touareg 2.5d just had a new engine. He took it to both a VW dealer and an indie and they both said it could be one or a combination of several things - I think airleak somewhere in the fuel system or a stuck inlet butterfly valves or a fault with the high pressure pump. He'd already had the glowplugs changed.

Neither of them would do any work unless he said he'd pay even if it didn't fix the fault and the indie advised that with 80K miles (I wouldn't have though that was huge) everything could be a bit marginal and the most certain thing to do was to change the engine, so that's what he did.

Have your local Ford dealer redo the injector correction factors, each injector has a 16 digit code that needs programming to the icm or pcm depending on the model.
