Bluefin / Dreamscience Chip
Discussion
Hi all, i will soon be a new owner of a very nice mk1 focus rs and was wondering which would be the better superchip.
The car is totally standard and i will be keeping it that way, i just want to unlock all of the horses under the bonnet.
Are these chips easy to install? When i say easy i mean just plug and play? I dont want to be taking the dash off or taking apart anything under the hood.
Cheers

Yeah mate I can't wait. I only looked at 2. One from a dealer and one private.
Went for the private.
Hopefully getting it on the 30th. Said to the guy I want it serviced and I want to be there to ask the garage about the car before I buy it. Hopefully all is well, I'm sure it is as he has looked after it.

I know its a different car but I drive an ST220 and the difference between bluefin and Dreamscience is night and day, I bought my car with bluefin installed but felt it didnt offer too much except a slightly higher rev limiter. So a Dreamscience came up at a good price and I thought why the hell not. When installing it the midrange response was better and you could feel that the power was slightly higher as well as the extra customisation which better benefitted my contributing mods. If I was you I would go for the Dreamscience as I feel it is a more complete unit.

I must admit I am swaying towards the dreamscience chip.
Is it as simple as plug and play then?
I assume the car already has a connection point ready?
Where snouts is it? I don't have the car yet so can't snoop around.
I have dreamscience on my rs its a very good bit of kit. You upload the program via the eobd socket which is below the steering wheel it takes around 5 mins to do and is very simple. It would be worth getting a deact pipe as well as the standard cat is very restrictive and will probably quickly be knackered once the car has been remapped as they run very rich at the top end. With these mods and a induction kit mine made 265 bhp now with a hybrid turbo it should be 300bhp running 1.6 bar of boost (made 280 at 1.2) its lots of fun Is it as simple as plug and play then?

You'd be better speaking to some of the RSOC guys through the club site. There is a guy that offers a "custom" map download that brings the best of the original base map (AE - No coughing at 5k revs) and most of the benefits of the Bluefin together in one.
It's also a damn site cheaper than BF or DS.

neil - the only mod i would do is add the dreamscience chip but you have me concerned regarding the cat. I dont want to remove it as i cant me bothered to keep putting it back on come MOT time. Would you suggest just keeping the car standard then?
They run rich at the top end of the rev range no matter what way you have it even standard and thats bad for the cat, if you are ok with a set of spanners then its not hard to swap over once a year for the mot, unless you can find a friendly mot tester of course

Picked up mine yesterday with Bluefin on... comparing to a mates the boost seems to kick in lower down the rev range
No torque limiter in 1st and 2nd but still controlable
But obviously haven't driven it without it on
the bluefin still limits in 1st and 2nd but relaxes it from standard, did a 'performance comparison' against a friends one with bluefin mine was quicker with nothing but the dreamscience and deact No torque limiter in 1st and 2nd but still controlable
