Running probs on a nice XR3i
Discussion
Morning All,
Was helping a neighbour last night with his wife's car which was having problems.
His wife runs a very nice, totally unmolested F reg XR3i. It's completely standard as far as I know (which must make it rare
) and in very good condition. She's owned it for 9 years.
Last night it was reluctant to start and idle. It does start after a crank and can be kept running on the throttle and sounds fine when doing so, when warmed up it will idle but still susceptible to stalling. The car has been serviced, has new oil and oil filter and plugs look in good condition and show a good colour.
The plug leads look like they might have been on a few years now, and the dizzy cap looks like it hasn't been disturbed for a while, plus the fuel filter wasn't changed last service.
I've said I'll attend to those items for them, plus I have an engineer friend who seems to remember his way around the K-Jetronic (?) fuel ststem, but I thought I'd come on here to seek some advice.
If we have to look at the fuel injection system, do we start from the beginning and work our way through or are there some known areas which can be problematic or more likely to be the source of the problem?
Unfortunately I'm unable to give precise age of car right now, nor do I know the mileage. If it's any help the car is grey (which I believe was popular with the later models and might be indicative of age/model) and has the twin plane rear spoiler at the base of the window (standard, I believe) as opposed to the larger rubber one fitted to earlier cars.
Any help would be appreciated guys, It'd be nice to keep this nice original car in good health.
