Hello guys,

Am about to order a new Focus RS, anyone has any tips or recommendations as to options etc..? Should not be any new model coming ou I suppose as it was released last year? Is the car comfortable (reasonably) or loud and stiff?

Will also modify the ECU for a few extra hp and torque, what company is the best? Is it possible to reset the ECU before service so that it can not be seen by Ford?

Thanks!

Hi There

I have a frozen white FRS.

People say to order with lux pac 1. if you NEED the sat nav then lux pac 2.
Personally I bought an RS for its performance, not gadgets. But hey thats me.

Mods... go for someone with reputation like;

http://www.grahamgoode.com/website/index.php?websi...

These guys offer 12 mth fully comprehensive warranty on all their work. There are others out there but these are good.

I am going for the 370 upgrade once mine reaches 7 or 8k miles.

Hope this helps

I have one .. as my daily driver.

IMHO the suspension is a bit too stiff and the tyres have a stupidly low profile (35 series) but that aside it's a great car.

Noise - it's quiet on a motorway (3K @ 80mph) and there is some nise noises with the wastegate / air box around town without fear of being cast as Max power boy ..

Plenty of performance as STD and as its winter - I cannot see that any more power would help .. I get wheel spin / tramp in 3rd in the dry but in the summer in might be a bit better.

Any ECU remap leaves a trace on the memory so if you reset it to standard the diagnostic machine should still be able to spot it.

Basic/Lux 1 stereo is 6 CD and DAB.

Lux 2 stereo is 1 CD and no DAB.

Leather seats are much less attractive/garish (delete to taste) but I suspect will wear much better.

USB/Bluetooth (with cool but pointless voice control) is a no brainer at £200.

White is the no-cost option - real Marmite colour.

Green (£700 ish) is very hard to repair if damaged, but looks much better in the flesh than it photos.

Blue (£395?) is the colour if you like polishing and waxing as it can look amazing.

As for the power upgrade, it would appear that Mountune are a shortly to announce their Ford-approved (i.e. no warranty damage) upgrade package. Though the Graham Goode Package mentioned above is well thought of. Autocar have reviewed it, look for a review of the Focus RS GGR370 (or something).

A good Focus RS forum

The Auto Express article is their attempt at guessing the spec of a much rumoured 'last 500' model which may appear later this year. Many speak of an extra 50hp. For type approval reasons I find this unlikely, and the most popular colour rumour is (matt?) black with a garish interior.

Hello,
I have an ultimate green one with 6000 miles on the clock now. I highly recommend Lux 1 with bluetooth/USB and half leather, its what i have wink As said the green is much better in the flesh and is "the" colour to have ..... i await replies to that wink
The car is very comfortable, after driving to Warwickshire and back (im from Aberdeen) with no sore back, no numb arse and not deaf .... even with a non-standard exhaust! Yes the car is stiff, infact very stiff in the shell, but please remember this is not a family hatchback!

Must say, now I've got a green one, I do like the way the blues can be made to gleam.

And they certainly seem to be the rarest colour.

I bought a blue (lux pack 2, leather and usb) in october last year to replace my 335d coupe. I use it as an "everyday" car and can't find fault with it. It's certainly different and attracts attention and on a good country road handles superb. I am waiting for the mountune official upgrade to come out and will then go down that route. Color wise I wanted a white one but thought the blue was better as an everyday car. Its a great "look back at" car.

Grebo,

How do you find your RS compares with the 335d? The 335d is a car which I would seriously consider swapping the RS for, or are they really lke chalk and cheese, ie the RS is relatively light and chuckable fun, whereas the BMW is more like a storm trooper....good in a straight line, but too heavy for the tighter twisties?

Despite the 335d being a great car it wasn't a great driver's car. Don't get me wrong after getting it DMS'd the thing was seriously quick in a straight line and could keep in touch with much faster (and expensive) cars. It just didn't have that "chuckability" factor. Several things decided my purchase in the end - it started having an appetite for cracking rear wheels (as discussed elsewhere on the form)which BMW won't cover under warranty, tyres were very expensive (despite going over to non runflats), the auto box despite having flappy paddles is not very sporty and finally I also sold my long term 993 S and wanted something I could use for a blast at weekends and during the week that was relatively "cheap" to run. By cheap I mean compared to both the 335d and the 993 S.

Looks like I`ll be keeping my RS...did not take much convincing anyhow...BMW and Porsche for that matter seem to like controlling their cars with electronic driver aids and not the driver (?!)...thanks for your experience.
