Hi, looking for a bit of advice really.

I have a mark 4 1986 Escort Ghia. Recently I've had a couple of problems with it, i.e. not turning over properly, sometimes not starting in the mornings. I've managed to cure the not starting, oddly enough by doing an oil change, (?!) and now it runs fine. Until its been running and I stop for a couple of minutes to get fuel or something, at which point it will not start properly again, even though its been running fine up until then. I was thinking this could either be a dodgy alternator, although if it was then it would need to be jumped all the time, or I am in need of a new fuel pump. What do you guys think?

Would really appreciate any answers/suggestions, so thanks very much in advance. Tim

I think we might be able to help more if you told us which engine you had?

I had a Google for "cvh hot start" and came up with a thread from passionford...

http://passionford.com/forum/technical-help-q-and-...

If you can manage to read it (takes some doing!) it should say something about the started motor being near to the exhaust manifold... have a look on yours see if it's the same...

Might just need the started shielding from the manifold...

What colour is you dizzy cap? (i assume it's either a 1.3 or 1.6)
if it's the blue cap it's probably the dsitributor, idealy you want a bosch dizzy with the red cap smile
The early blue cap dizzy sufferd from intermitant earth problems causing hot start and missing.
Did one on a S1 orion a few months back but with yours being Mk4 shouldn't have the blue cap ?

I did think about that, but its not a blue or a red cap, it's black! Will certainly look into it though. It's not that its a major problem, I'm just getting a crick in my neck from hiding when I'm trying to start the bugger! biggrin
