Not having driven the other halfs car for a while I was alarmed by how much power it lacked. It seems fine upto around 2500 rpm but after that it struggles. I've changed the plugs, air filter etc. but to no avail.
Any ideas?

Could be a damaged CAT that is strangling the engine or a Lambda Sensor.

Bit of a long shot this one. I had exactly the same thing with the wifes fiesta I hadn't driven it for a while and........

eventually I found a vacuum leak. there is a number of pipes from various places pushed onto connectors on the throttle body. I noticed one of the connectors had nothing on it but there was no sign of a pipe to connect to it either. I had a look at another car the same and found that a little rubber blanking plug had gone missing. I replaced it and problem solved. It runs a lot smoother too although it wasn't noticably bad when the plug was missing.

EGR Valve? It is mainly diesels these go on, but they can affect petrols too.
