Ford Mondeo 2003 2.0tdci 115 ghia
Discussion
Virtually all modern cars have a Dual Mass Flywheel and Mondeos are no more troublesome than any other.
My original Clutch, Flywheel and Concentric slave cylinder were replaced last September at 152000 miles and I tow a 24ft caravan. The clutch and flywheel were actually OK it was the CSC that was failing but it would have been false economy not to do the lot while the gearbox was out.
DMF's need to be treated right and they will last. For example they dont like to be laboured in too high a gear for the road speed and especially when towing the caravan I always try to avoid stopping uphill at lights etc. If possible I'll anticipate the lights and keep moving slowly in first rather than get right up to the lights and have to stop.
One other tip..... I do a lot of dual carriageways and I find that 50mph is only just fast enough for 5th gear, any slower and it labours slightly. I find my fuel consumption is better at that speed in 4th than 5th. 4th is also better for the DMF. 50mph in 4th is 2000rpm, right in the middle of the torque band which is why the consumption is better.
