Strange request here, after ruining a tyre on my RS beyond repair on a pothole, (tyre wall completely ripped apart), the tyre repair kit, obviously useless for this kind of thing & having to wait 2 hours to be recovered, was thinking of keeping a space saver in the boot.

My question is, will it fit the RS due to different hub, offset etc & can anyone give me the dimensions of it, (diameter, width) so i can see how much room it will take up in the boot?

Thanks guys

Hi Gareth - I have an ST-2 with the space saver and an RS with a can of snot. I was planning to try the space saver in the RS's boot & check it fits the car this weekend (all being well).

My ST has holes in the boot floor where the jack & wheel are screwed down, but I don't think the RS has these, so that's one hurdle to overcome. Also, the foam inserts in the boot to space the wheel and create a false floor would need to be produred / fabricated. From what I've been told, buying the whole lot from Ford is a lot of money.....

Anyway, I'll by trying the wheel on my RS this weekend (when I fit my mudflaps), so will let you know how the fitment goes.

Mark

That would be great, thanks mate.

Yes, i was also thinking along the lines of creating a false floor for it to fit under or even just a box covered in floor carpet material located to one side of the floor or even standing up to one side if theres enough height to fit under parcel shelf.

Just need the dimensions & to make sure it def fits the hubs before i start my planning!!

Cheers again.

Soz Gareth, my back has gone frown I'm laid up! I'll see how I get on over the next few days as to whether I can operate the jack & pick up a wheel or not.... but at the moment I can barely get in / out of either car.

Unfortunately not, it's been stationary for too long now frown

Anyway, I've got hold of some pain-killers that work and been able to fit the rallyflapz to the RS, which meant removing the wheels.... I can now confirm that the ST space saver does not clear the front brakes on the RS, but it does fit the back perfectly. Stud pattern / hubs must be identical on the 2 cars.

I hope that helps you!

OK, cool, thanks for that. Will obtain a space saver then & carry 2 jacks, then if i get a front puncture i can swap a rear to the front & put the spare on the rear!!
Cheers! biggrin

Theres a couple on fleabay at reasonable prices, around £50, with jack, brace etc, then just have to find the proper boot foam surround to create the false floor OR buy a big sheet of polystyrene & cut to fit with a large hole for the spare!

When you say it doesn't clear the front brakes, is it diameter wise or the calipers stick out too far? If its the second then maybe a wheel spacer would do the job to clear it?

I've got an ST-3 and it doesnt have a space saver. Did these only come on the 1 and 2?

Think they were on the earliest models before being replaced with the tyre inflation kit in 2006, then the space saver was optional extra after that.

Optional extra wink However, they do eat up a lot of boot space.
