Fiesta Zetec 2002 overheating problem

Hi all,

My brother has the above car and has a strange problem, it basically overheats when the heater is set to HOT. It also doesn't always switch to cold then you change the setting. Could it be the heater matrix? It's weird that it happens that way round don't you think?

There's quite a long story beheind this and he's already had his pants pulled down getting the head gasket changed along with the water pump and the radiator. It's going for an independant inspection next week, probably with the AA, as 2 garages have tried and failed to diagnose it correctly.

Would appreciate it of any fellow PHers had any ideas.

And that could cause engine overheating?

Yeah, that's the usual problem. Before buying it though you could take it out clean it, drain coolant and make sure there's no air locks. But otherwise its a pretty safe bet.
