Thinking of a Focus 2005 / 2006 1.6.........

Just like to call on PH for a bit of advice please?
A couple of years ago I bought my wife a very nice Golf GT sport DSG. She really likes it, but it's sat on our drive most of the time not really moving so we may well be thinking of selling it and getting her a Focus to potter about in.
I've driven hundreds of them as hire cars and AFAIK the one to have is the 1.6 zetec 5 door. I'd be looking at spending <5K or there abouts so I'd be putting myself at aroung the MY05 / MY06 ages I'd guess. We'd use it as a 2nd car to ferry kids about in and a 25 mile a day commute so I'd hope it would get close to 40mpg....
I've always had them as brand new / nearly new hire cars so my opinion is based on them having not had a few years use. So my question is -
Is there a lot to look out for on a 4 year old 1.6 Focus? Are there common failures etc or are they as reliable as I'd like to think?
