Cougar 3 button key

I recently purchased a Ford cougar 2.5 V6, its not a bad old barge, not as nimble as my Corrado Vr6 but still a good car
I was wondering if i can purchase from Ebay a 3 button key and programme it myself using the sequence I have found?
Main Stealer wanted £90 for the key and £30 for programming said key, a guy on a market was selling them for £90 programmed.
Also about 1000 to 1500 rpm there is a hessiataion like kangaroo petrol, somebody has said HT leads could this be right? also any ideas where the fuse box inside the car is located?
