Yep I'll second that it is a belt. Though when I bought mine I asked at the service desk in the dealer about the cam change intervals, I was told "err.. It is a chain so it doesn't need doing" yikes I later learned from the STOC that it is indeed a belt.

It is in fact the Swedish built Volvo RNCT B5254 engine found in all their current smaller T5s.

Wide bores, closely spaced and fragile if you get remapping wrong.

I wouldnt say they were that fragile mate..........mine is pushing 280bhp and 320 lb/ft torque and there are guys pushing alot more than that with a standard turbo with no dramas.

So simply remapping it wont do much harm at all.......even ford themselves approve a 40 bhp power hike with the mountune kit.

don kalmar union knows his stuff mate wink bit of an STOC veteran! and hes refering to badly remapped units, boost spikes have been know to crack the cylinder walls quite often on the ST engine from what ive seen on the OC.

Am I right in thinking the service interval on the belt is something relatively large though - 100/120k ish?

How many miles do you get out of a set of front tyres?

I'm struggling to make 5k yet and I haven't mapped mine!

I get about 14k per set and would like to (and probably could, I suppose) do better.

I don't even get 14k out of the rears! hehe

My fuel economy is usually around 26mpg so I can't be booting it that badly.

With mine i expect it to have the 260ps and anything else it has above that is a bonus depending on how healthy my particular engine is. Mine is certainly quick enough.

I don't believe the 285bhp/384 lb ft (IIRC) that EVO rolling roaded theirs at, i think that's a tad optimistic confused

If you get yours rolling roaded to find out it only opens up a can of worms about variations between dynos anyway IMO.

In spite of what EVO say - believe me a Mountune 260PS is 260PS.

We do a lot of work to ensure this is the case.
