Basically as the title says - after a good one, unmodified, no bad history but lots of good stuff, money waiting - but it has to be the big turbo model.

Anyone out there waiting to fufil a childhood dream for me? Classifieds and Autotrader are being scanned on a daily basis...

Cheers!

good choice, im sure it was a childhood dream for most people under 35 years old. it will be hard to find an unmodded one though, surely some choice mods are a good thing?

I wouldn't completely rule them out, but when they start BBR stage3ing, green injectors, Bajoo chipping etc, then I'm thinking not...

Hello Don1; I've got an ummodified Cosworth that I might be willing to sell but it's the small turbo, is that a complete none starter? Bought it at the beginning of '09, you contributed to the thread that I started and said that you were looking for one then but like I said mine is a small turbo but it is pretty mint! wink

Hi SAGPACK, yeah, sorry, it really needs to be the flat headed blocked engine - that for me is the iconic part of the engine bay...

How are you enjoying yours though?
Edit - Looked through, and Jesus, you have a good memory! Yes, finally decided to pull the collective fingers out, and get a couple of cars.

Never mind Chap, worth mentioning. Car's great thanks, I've not driven it as much as I'd like to have since last summer was fubar and then winter was so bad but I've just had it serviced,MOT'd and generally spruced so ready for summer (which will hopefuully be a good one this year). the RS has still only got just over 20500 miles on the clock so I can afford to put a few miles on it this year, it's just my fear of our dodgy potholed roads that holds me back!
wink Good luck with your hunt and I'm sure there is one out there, you just might have to look quite hard for an unmodified one!!

Cheers, but I've just called, and it's a small turbo.... (Arse!)

SAG, maybe a few modifications would be OK, but when they have had the entire catalogue thrown at it... wink

wow, now that is a low mileage concours car, more expensive than it was new though.

why is the large turbo model so important to you? they do seem pretty few and far between.

The garage we are building is of an iconic nature. Cars that we lusted after as teenagers and young adults.

So the Escort Cosworth was always with the flat topped engine, not the rounded small turbo model cam cover. The flat top was always seen on the cruises, in the Max Power magazines - it was always seen as 'the daddy'. Plus the fact you'd see the exact same lump in the BTCC, the WRC.... It's just the one, really!

I might have to go slightly over budget to get what I want though.... Not happy.

i am sure under the cam cover the engine is exactly the same if it is just that look you want, the same engine as used in all those rallys etc just covered by a modern looking piece of removable plastic. but if you want big turbo then you want big turbo, although you can add a big turbo to a £15k car at a fraction of the cost of spending £23k on a car.

no good?

No, massive difference between the big and small turbo cars, I'm afraid. A few cosmetic things as well (mirrors etc), but the engine is a large difference.
