1999 1.6 focus
Discussion
Hi,
i have a 1999 focus with 129k on the clock, just recently the engine has started to cut out. It happens when slowing down to stop at a junction, the engine management light comes on then goes out. The power steering also goes, but the car starts on the button straight away afterwards and drives fine.
Has anyone else had this? is it just a fault with a sensor?

Hi, sorry i can't help you with the engine cutting out, but i can tell you that the power steering going is 'normal'. It's powered from the drivebelt, so when the engine stops so does anything powered by it. My 54 plate Focus does the same if i stall it on the move.
Hope you get it sorted and its nothing serious!

thanks for the replies guys, i will get my mate to check it over. It's only started doing since i had the manifold replaced after it failed it's mot....very strange
Might be a vacuum pipe been left off in that case, or simply something not connected. Take it back to the place that did the work and ask them to investigate.
Odds are its something simple.
I had a similar problem on my fiesta turns out it was the road speed sensor that goes into the gear box it sits in line of the speedo cable as it enters into the gearbox had just been pulled slightly and wasnt sitting correctly mine used to cut out not every but almost everytime i come to stop once popped back in it was fine
