Had a pleasant surprise recently, on purchasing and fitting a k&n induction kit to my fezzer st i then put it onto a rolling road to find out the performance.

It made 168.9 bhp which i was obviously chuffed with! However i am sure that the 2.0 engine wouldn't see a huge increase like this just from breather mods?

Can anybody suggest how or why this could have happened? I have spoken about this on a previous thread but didn't get many replies.

Cheers

10bhp is the norm on these cars....

Did you buy the car new? When I got rid of mine I didn't bother removing the Milltek flexi pipe... Maybe it already has flexi pipe/sportscat etc?

Or the rr was a little optimistic...

No i purchased it in January and its a 2005 pre-facelift. Still a bit baffled but haven't checked the exhaust yet, maybe it has a flexi pipe i'm not sure.

Just wandered if anybody had any similar situations as i have.

I never put mine on the rollers, so I couldn't tell you any figures...

I do know that once I put the standard airbox and associated pipework, it felt a lot less eiger to rev...

It's not uncommon to get figures like this with a k&n on the ST. My old one ran just a smidge over 160 with a flexi pipe and k&n. The standard air box really is quite restrictive.

Unfortunately i didn't get a readout on the road before the induction kit was fitted.

Have read in a feature about the st's in a fast ford mag and apparently they can loosen up an extra 5-10bhp once the engine has run in.

All i know is at the moment it revs alot more freely and goes like stink! Much prefer it to my previous car an r53 cooper s, i thought i was taking a step down in the car world!

Mine had a bit more urge when it went past 5k.

Also, I drove an R53 CooperS back when I had my ST and came to the conclusion that I prefered the Fiesta, so personally I don't think your mad for not thinking you've actually 'down'graded

My OH had a MCS when I had my FST... I preferred hers to mine...

Although I think that had something to do with the 'charger whine...

The Mini sounded better, and looked better IMO... Gripped better and felt more stable too... Hmm, maybe it wasn't just the whine then... hehe
