Was driving SWMBO's 52-plate Ka at the weekend and noticed that whilst turning and going over bumps/potholes in the road, the steering was somewhat vague. Like I wasn't sure exactly what the front wheels were doing.

Also noticed that the wheel is reluctant to return to the 'dead-ahead' position after making slight turns. Any ideas what's up? Is it just bushes etc or something a bit more serious like the steering rack? ( My sister's Ka needed a new steering rack at 19k miles, Ford paid ).

Power steering is working fine, I checked the level and it's spot-on. Tyre pressures are fine, tyres are fairly new and same make. No unusual knocking noises that I can hear.

Cheers.

Hi mate smile get your tracking/camber and bushes checked but its more likely to be that the tracking is out it only takes one pothole;)
good luck Marcsmile

i was getting that in my sportka, most annoying it was. turned out it was the wishbone bushs, get them checked/replaced and it tightens the car up no end.

ps you will prob find that the rear bushs will need doing as well
