What can I expect?
Discussion
I'm hoping to go and have a nosey round a Ford puma at the weekend. Its a 1.7 and looks tidy enough in the photos but (theres always a but) it has 105k miles on the clock. Should this put me off? I know if I spend £500 more I could get a car with nearly half the miles but that requires someone buying my car, so for no interest at all!
So, what do you think? I know to look out for rusty arches and sills and corroded brake lines but is there anything else?

I've heard of this problem, is there anyway to tell if the liners are on the way out? or is it one of these problems that just happens?
I think I may also of read that they were only on the earlier cars, how early, the one I'm looking at is on a w plate.
Is it likely that if they were going to cause a problem they would have done so by now or does it crop up more often on higher milage cars?

Humm other than the parts youve mentioned already, with a car of that milage you'll want to check the cambelt has be changed.
Front suspension arms. If you decide to get new ones, dont buy non ford parts, they dont last long in our experience (3 pumas between us lol) take out the ford ones (if you still have them on the car) and replace the bushes with powerflex ones.
New ones will cost you about £90 per arm from ford so just reuse the ones on the car, wont work with none ford ones though.
Rear bushes also, you can pick up FRP standard ones from ford for £5 each. So Im told by an FRP owner.
Im currently changing the brake pipes and the clutch on mine and its only done 72k then the cambelt.
Sounds like Im giving them a bad rep for needing lots of work, they are worth it though, lots of fun to drive and look pretty funky too.
I'll point my OH in the direction of your thread to see if he can give you any info that Iv missed
