Hi Guys, this is my first post here so Hi all. I have a 55 plated performance blue st2 and last week it developed a rattle after running low on oil............having taken it in for a service and some investigation this morning they have informed me that the big and has gone. Having spoken to ford they wont supply a bottom end only but will supply 'plates' but they will only work providing not to much damage has been done, failing that the only answer is a complete new engine starting at 3500 plus fitting and other consumables. My local garage have found an engine for 2200 but have no idea of history but think it may have done 50k, same as mine, by the same token i could end up with an engine with the exact same problem that has had its arse ragged................................so my question to you guys is this......................do i strip it down and saell it as parts, do i sell it as is and take the loss, do i bite the bullet abd spend 5k on an 8k car or do i pray some theiving wretch decides they want an st and bins it or burns it

Cheers in advance

The engine in your car is a Volvo RNCT B4254 which is also found in all current Volvo S40, V50, C30 and C70 T5s.

You can buy all the individual engine components from any Volvo dealer, so you dont have to buy a complete replacement engine, although you will find some on ebay at sensible prices.

I also keep sets of 5 forged, stronger rods should you need them at sensible prices.

Regards, Don.

Thanks Don, we approached the volvo dealer on Pirbright but they said the same as ford, complete engine. Am going for a complete engine, 14000 miles with turbo and gearbox for 1200 notes
