ST220 key replacement
Discussion
Missus has only ever had 1 key since buying the car. Today she went to ford and asked for a spare, they told her 160 for the key then a few hours labour to code it.
I nearly drove down to tell the sales manager to stop being a
but it appears ford like to gang rape its customers over a 10 quid part. Now, is there a DIY alternative to getting a spare and coding to the imobiliser?

If I go in and the f
kwit tries to convince me its a few hours work I'll gladly ask him to let me RTFM and I'll do the 10 minute job myself. Reflashing a 1k chip takes 3 hours labour, o'rly
Sorry for ranting, its a piss take.

Indeed I think it's expensive regardless of the stealer you go to.
When I got my Focus ST I had two keys, but the remote one was rather shabby so I decided I'd treat myself to a new one.
Got a brand new key with uncut blade for £30 from eBay. £5 to get a local locksmith to cut the key. Then £40 to Ford to program it.
Job done, and wasn't TOO expensive.

does it require 2 existing keys as we only have the one, also is this for the imob sync too?
Thanks
You have to program all the keys at the same time so i assume it wipes of any keys in the memory & starts again the only thing im unsure of is if you need a master key for it, but have a friend at a dealers who i will speak to in the week to find out the programming sequence is the same on my Focus so will have a go at that first Thanks

You cannot program an additional key if you only have one.
If you have two, you can program a third, fourth, etc up to sixteen.
If you only have one, you can get another cut, but they must be programmed together with a WDS / IDS, and this procedure first wipes all the existing keys in the ECU.
The above is to deactivate the PATS and start the car with both keys.
You could get a second pushbutton key and program it to lock / unlock the doors but without the above procedure it will not start the car.
HTH.
ETA - there is no such thing as a 'Master' key.
