Focus st170 vs Toyota Corolla T sport
Discussion
I looked seriously at the T sport Corolla a year ago (ended up with a diesel Focus). I never test drove one but everything read said that handling wasn't as good and getting the performance out of the T-sport's engine was frustrating.
Because the way the 2 cams system works in the vvti engine, unless you rev to the redline before changing up you'll drop onto the lower cam and lose the performance benefit of the second cam, and then have to rev back up to it to get the performance back. Basically you're constantly chasing revs to get performance which may become tiresome and be thirsty.
That said, i personally wouldnt rate the ST170's performance for the fuel + insurance costs, although it'll handle even better than my Focus and i like the handling of my car.
If you're after a hot hatch in that price range i'd be looking at an EP3 CTR or a Leon 1.8T.

Yes mate i read a few reviews on the t sport and i fond that even tho it has more horsepower than the st170 it is slightly slower to 60 (probably down to weight)Because the way the 2 cams system works in the vvti engine, unless you rev to the redline before changing up you'll drop onto the lower cam and lose the performance benefit of the second cam, and then have to rev back up to it to get the performance back. however i also read that the chassis isnt up to the power which in my eyes is a waste
