Well I finally did it. After a few great years of Alfa ownership I traded my beloved 156 in for a ST220 today. I'm going to miss the Alfa but the ST is helping by being bloody great thumbup

Quick question though, does anybody have a pdf copy of the owners handbook? It didn't come with one and I need to know tyre pressures, oil spec, etc.

Well done wink Check out talkford-should fine the pdf there. Btw, IMO it is a better car than the Alfa.

33psi front, 31 rear. smile

Oil - stick with Ford's stuff. Just replace regularly.

Next stop - Focus ST brakes, and a nice exhaust so you can hear it howl. smile

Enjoy. biggrin

Nice choice!

I really like driving my mate's ST220. One of the best bits is hanging onto 3rd gear all the way to 7000 cloud9 too easy to get addicted that sound and the top end pull

In many ways you're right, but not all biggrin The 156 seemed to have a sharper throttle (though most of the Fords I've driven have been a little stodgy) and somewhat better steering, but the Mondy V6 is an absolute stormer of an engine, fair play to it. I love the way that you can ride through town on a wave of torque, but put your foot down in any gear at virtually any speed and it will pull away sharply. Suits my lazy driving style perfectly.

Also thanks for the info Podie.

Sure but its greatest advantage is when you really want to take it to the limit! Please don't say you're just gonna pootle along below 3000, that would be a waste

Around town I do yes, it's nice to just waft along, but I love to open the taps when I get a chance. No point in buying a V6 and not using it smile

Great choice of car! What else did you think about buying before you chose this or was it always going to be an ST220?
Just curious because seems like a lot of people don't think about them at first when they start car shopping then they hear about them and get interested.

I was one of themhehe

I actually first planned to trade up a few years ago and the ST220 was top of the list, but the Alfa came along at too good a price to refuse and the thought just drifted away. This time around I was looking at picking up a cruiser that had some punch for the fun moments, BMW 330i was the first choice and I briefly looked at Mazda RX8's but then remembered the ST. It's better value overall because you can pick up a newer one with more toys and lower milage than the Beamer, if you're willing to trade off the RWD.

Plus as soon as I drove one I knew I had to have it driving

Despite my techno-mastery I actually don't own a digital camera, hoping to get some up later this week though smile

.
Part of this is down to mapping, the rest is down to it having a conventional cable throttle, a lot of newer stuff has an electronic drive by wire throttle (even my Transit), once remapped they sharpen up nicely.

Enjoy it mate!

On Saturday my beloved ST220 is off and being replaced by a sensible Focus diesel as we're struggling with cash at the moment frown

No, had it since August.

Just doing too many miles for work and stuff to be able to justify keeping it, worked out that if things stay the same (whereas in actuality costs are just going to keep going up) it's going to cost me in excess of 10k more over the next 4-5 years to run compared to the diesel Focus it's being replaced with frown

Yes, already sold!

I am going to look at an ST220 on Saturday, never ever thought I'd own one so would be grateful if anyone could advise on what to look for?

The one I am viewing has Sat Nav, are they as hopeless as my VX sat nav?

Thanks!

Chortle?! Why the change?! Interested in a mint(& I mean MINT) fully loaded(& I mean FULLY loaded!!) one with under 4k miles on the clock? I'm tempted by the new Titanium X Sport but only if I can get a good deal.

I know I know!!! smile well, we're expecting our first baby next month so need to free up a little cash for 6 months so the VXR has to go sadly...and I still want to have a nice car to drive for days out with the family, only want to spend about 6k and an ST220 fits the bill nicely until I can get the Insignia VXR!

I read on here about the doors being prone to rust, the one I am intending to look at (which is in Leeds and I'm in Kent) is a 2004/53, performance blue with cream leather which really does look nice.

Just don't know how I'll cope with the severe lack of power though and Orion indicator stalks wink

I like the look of it but £30k specced up to what I would want, I doubt massive discounts are around any more either so I doubt it will happen. Really like the look of it though TBH. Fuel economy for 240ps pretty good too!
