anybody got any experience of these ?

my mate has bought one and thinks there maybe something not right with it ?

I haven't witnessed this myself yet but he recons that when accelerating, always around 3K - 3.5K, the car holds the rpm for a brief moment before taking off ? - he says this is most noticable in 4th and 5th.

I guessing that it must be fairly noticable as he had a standard Focus ST before that

is this normal with the Mountune Focus ST ? do they suffer from a bit of lag

many thanks for any advice

This doesnt relate directly to the Mountune conversion, but i have an ST with a DreamScience map among other things and i get a very similar problem.

However i have noticed it only does it when the traction control/ESP is turned on. Once its off i dont get any kind of hesitation. So maybe it the engines ECU limiting the amount of torque at certain RPM.

Anyway i hope this helps a little. Maybe your friend could try with the ESP off and see if it makes a difference.

Failing that tell him to get over to the Focus ST oweners club as there is a wealth of info over there.

From what you've descibed it maybe clutch slip which is a known weak point on the ST which only really shows itself when they're remapped.

Clutch slip doesn't feel like hesitation on these, just a temporary rise in engine note. Mine only did this in 6th. If the OP's mate had a standard ST before it could just be that the difference in mapping is confusing him. I remember mine having a noticeable increase in urge at around 4k after the Mountune conversion.
