Which Axle for my Mk2 Escort ??

I'm finally starting to accumulate parts, motivation, momentum and time to make a really strong effort on my Mk2 escort project. I'm hoping for a very fast road / track and race car with a Cosworth turbo, and am more than mechanically up for the task of fabricating and assembling the project.

I'm after some direction with regards to axles, however.

I'd like to keep the live axle design so it remains a "proper" Escort underneath, however every search and scan around that I do looking for a traditional competition Atlas axle designs come with some horiffically scary prices. Are they this expensive because they are simply the perfect option for the car, or is there a much more sensibly priced alternative with appropriate characteristics? - Weight / Strength / Ratios / LSD / Availability / Size etc etc etc.
