I need to change cars, and am looking (amongst others) at a 2009 Focus.

I have a choice between Titanium and Zetec S
and I have a choice of Petrol or diesel.

Which one would be easier to sell in 3 years?, and which one will hold its value more?

From what I'm seeing (on autotrader) the depreciation seems about the same but just how difficult would it be to sell a 3dr 2.0 Zetec S petrol Vs a 5 dr titanium 2.0 tdci?

The mileage at 5 years would be about 80-100k

I'd say the diesel wins on all fronts there.

The mileage you're doing would seem to warrant a diesel, and they seem easier to sell on and more popular than the petrol equivalents.

5 door easier to sell regardless of engine. Would be a tough call at 100,000 miles which was easier to sell because the diesel will have big bill potential at that mileage/age.

Is there a specific major bill at 100k?

Not really but, Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF), injectors, and fuel pump are expensive and would be a concern. Don't think cambelt if due till 125k.

Saying that my Dad has ran 2 2.0tdci foci for 3 years and 50k each with none of the above issues.

One thing to watch on the later diesels is the DPF (diesel particulate filter). They have a fluid reservoir which needs topping up at services and the whole unit lasts around 75000 miles before it needs replacing, which isn't cheap.

There's plenty more info on the Ford forums about the DPFs. I don't know a great deal about them as my 2007 Focus is one of the last without DPF.
