Ford Focus 1.6 ti-vct (115) engine rattle

Hoping someone can offer some advice here.
I am looking at buying a 2006(56) plate Focus 1.6(115) Ghia (TI-VCT engine not zetec) and on idle the engine is very noisy (sounds a bit like a diesel) and there is a metalic rattling - it's not tapping.
Although the car comes with a full service history, the last service was done at a non-ford garage and reading up on the problem, it sounds like the wrong oil could be the problem and/or it's the standard sound that the injectors make.
I was hoping that someone could tell me they've had the same problem - the interior is immaculate for a 4/5 year old car, and the paintwork has a few scratches and scuffs like you'd expect.
I believe the dealer bought it from Fords as a part-ex.
It's a good deal as long as the engine isn't about to fail...so any experiences of this would be helpful!
