I have a 2007 Focus and I get a lot of condensation on the inside of the windows. Any ideas on why this should be?

The air inside the car is wet and the glass is cold.

When is this happening - while left overnight, while driving etc?

Water ingress is the usual culprit.

Check all the carpets (including the boot), seats and doorcards for damp, also if you get in with damp clothes this will cause condensation.

when was the cabin/pollen filter last changed? even the dealers dont always do it when its serviced.
If the filter is clogged it will reduce air flow into the car dramatically, causing it to mist up badly. Most likely cause of your problem unless you have a leak.

I feel like a magical fking gypsy fairy for distributing this knowledge to the masses.....

All cars get wet on the inside.... so ... collect those little bags of silica they put in packaging and shoes, put in a cloth bag or sunglasses bag and hang in car, hey presto 10 days later you have a dry car, that remains dry.


You might have a seal leak though.

i bought a couple of these;

swap em every so often (pretty much weekly in this weather) and put the other one in the boiler cupboard to dry.

Alternatively, find the leak. All cars do NOT get wet inside.

Pollen filter, door membrane seal, boot hinges come to mine on the Focus. Fine a Focus forum which has TSB's listed.

You must be lucky having a foot dryer on the enterance to you car wink Trust me all cars get wet, even AC pool a minimal amount of water in the vents.

Check door seals, carpets, etc first to find out if water is getting in that way. If not, try the pollen filter next. Do you normally use the aircon? Giving it a good blast for a few trips can sometimes get rid of the worst of it.

I can't say I have EVER seen ANY moisture come out of ANY vents with A/C on all day long, you do know how A/C works yes? It REMOVES moisture from the air and drains it to the outside via a drain hole. Next time the windows are steamed up see how quickly it goes with the A/C on, the very reason lots of cars switch A/C on automatically if the windscreen vent is selected. If you think normal in/out traffic is enough to soak the mats to the extent that the windows mist up your must wear sponges not shoes. Your windows are probably steaming up due to all the hot air wink

when you turn your aircon on first thing in the morning do you windows intially (albeit veery breifly) mist up? Then clear? That mositure is from the AC system. With this in mind would you say that the mositure content in the air inside the car is more or less then outside? The sillica dissecent stuff just "drys" the air in the car when its parked.

We introduce moisture into the car every time we sit in it and breath.

Anyhow.... I dont have misting problems, and you right in saying someone might have a leak. (in which case they could probably do with removing extra water from the inside of the vehicle...)

Check the pollen filter seal. I know on some Mondeos the seal can allow water to track into the system due to capillary action.
