Suggestions on what to check for with this? Feels like there's a repetitive knocking at a constant interval which I can feel through the steering wheel and pedals.

On a side note, my heated windscreen isn't working on either side - is this likely to be the relay? How do you check if they're bust?

I would start of by having the wheels rebalanced or checked.

A few basics to check :

Tyre pressures
Tracking/Balancing
General condition of tyres, ( for signs of wear or foriegn bodies )
Discs and pads
Suspension links/joints/springs etc.

What sort of speed does it happen at?

Agree with Steve, and when you check the car over, jack it up and spin each wheel, checking for bulges on the tyres. I had the same symptoms you describe and thought I'd eliminated the tyres. The damage was such it wasn't visible when the car was resting normally.

Certainly obvious by 70mph now. Not had the chance to jack it up yet, it's on my list for this weekend, though I'm keeping a close eye on the tyres.

Weird new symptom, hopefully not related; the oil pressure gauge is no longer showing any readings, the needle doesn't raise at all. The oil pressure seems to work, but reads very high - as though the oil isn't warmed up, but the water temperature gauge is fine and it normally only takes a few miles for the oil temperature to show a reading, let alone the 25 miles to work.

I don't know if Ford have changed anything, but they used to make suspension bushes out of something resembling recycled cardboard, and it was not uncommon for them to degrade and give nasty steering wobble from 65mph to "motorway traffic speed". Replace any failed items with Polybush type uprated ones.

The oil pressure may just be the sensor, I'm not sure how the Focus ST oil pressure system works.
