Hi Folks! New to this side of the Forum (I'm usualy over on the Caterham side)
I have a question regarding my wife's car above.
It's a 2004 model, and has only done 60,00KM.
I gave it an oil & filter change last night, and I noticed the car's developed a top end "Tappety sound" but after listening to it for a while, it sounded more like a "Pst Pst" sound...
Lately we've noticed an exhuast smell inside the car, so I thought ah ha! there's a leak on the exhuast manifold. just taken the cover off the turbo, and ran her up, no leak.......
I noticed a bit of damp above though.
So, what do you guys think? Tappets, or injector seal?
I don't have a workshop manual, so another question, are the tappets hydrualic?
Any special tools needed to replace the injector seals?
Any ideas what's causing the fumes inside the car? There's no obvious leak.confused

TIA

Mick. (Mallorca)

See this very recent thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Ah, cheers! I'll get all the gubbins of the top of it at the weekend, and see if I can see them. Squirt a bit of liquid around them, and look for bubbles!

Thanks again.

Howdy again! Well it's been a few months, and I've been real busy with work, but I managed to get a look at it this morning.

Sure enough it's wet around number 4 injector.

But what a mission to get to the injectors! I started stripping it, then had a reality check, and thought what the bloody hell am I doing this for!
Plastic everywhere! Half the stuff I don't even know what it does.

I'm not frightened of taking things apart (I service 32 ltr 2000hp V16's at work)
But I thought, the old girl hasn't missed a beat, or cost a dime apart from servicing, and I've done that myself since the warranty was up.
Sod it! it's going into the local Ford dealer.

It's about time it had a new alternator belt too, and I can't even get my hands near that, so they can do it at the same time.

Any Ford technicians on here who can tell me how many hours are required for this job? Just so I can make sure the Garage doesn't try and pull a fast one on me.
After spending 5 minuites getting the air box off to see the injectors, I would take a guess, and say 2-3 hours max is generous.

Modern cars are definately not nice to work on are they.

Regards,
Mick.smile

I usually book down around 3 hours. This to me is fair after I have spent time to clean the carbon away from around the failed injector seal.

That's great mate thanks very much. beer
I'm interested to see what the Spanish dealer charges me.
I hate taking cars to the garage, I've always done my own work, but I don't have the time at the moment, or the enthusiasm for the newer cars.

However I'd be quite happy to tinker with one of these smile

At least I can understand what all the bits do, and not a piece of plastic in sight!
