GF's got a T-reg Ford Ka, with only one key - the current key is "really bad" (her words) and seems to be struggling to open the doors.

She's looking to get a second key cut for it - ideally a fully working one (i.e. open doors, start engine).

Does it need to be coded?

How much does such a thing cost?

Suggestions on where to get it from?

Could the lock barrels in the doors be worn? The driver's side one on the Wife's R reg Fiesta is so bad that it won't unlock at all.

Yes, this needs to be coded. A key costs around £28 and an hours labour TOPS to cut/code. Has to be done through IDS so, a Ford dealer

For a Focus ford quoted me £148 for a new key, cut and programmed ( I only have one key).

do an internet search for "auto lock smith" in your area and you may find one cheaper. I found one for £90 cut and programmed. (I take the car to him).

As I understand it, with the focus the prolem is the imobiliser. You need two working keys to be able to add a new key. failing that you need the diags to program a new key - many auto lock smiths have the diags gear for fords.

Hope that helps,
