mpg between EcoBoost 203ps vs 2.5T?
Discussion
I had a good drive of the 203ps Ecoboost mondeo yesterday.
It is a lovely car, typical Ford dynamics, interior layout (ie excellent).
But I have to say the 203 horses seem to be hiding. it wasn't remotely quick. not sure about the claimed mpg figure being even remotely possible in real world driving. couldn't even get the mpg up to 30mpg on a smooth cruise at 60mph.
Got to say powershift gearbox is excellent. It might even be better than VW/Audi DSG.

Dave,
It is a double clutch manual box just like the DSG system in VW cars.
no paddels behind steering wheel though, just the older style push the box to the right and push Down to go up a gear, and Up to go down a gear.
it can get caught out just like the DSG, where if you come up to a round about/ traffic light then suddenly you need to get on the gas again it can be in 1 gear to high. Though it quickly gets into the correct gear. to be honest it doesn't happen often. Works very well in auto mode.
But what it isn't is a proper auto. it doesn't give you the waft-ness that you get from a good auto.

I'm not sure i get the Ford pricing, this particular car had a list price of just over of 30K..
It included a couple of nice things like keyless go, satnav and electric passenger seat.
Seemed like alot of money, which *if* i had 30K to spend i'm not sure i would buy a Mondeo.
It is a lovely car, drives really well. But the real world mpg is way off, and 203PS/240PS is trying move a heavy car. I was suprised as to how it lacked 'go' when asked to. It has none of the delight from the old ST220 from pottering around at tick over and it would still lift its skirts when asked to from tickover. But yet give a lovely noise from 4K onwards. The 2.5T gives a nice noise and has a good range of power. The 2.0Ecoboost seems off the ball. No nice sound.. and poor mpg. It does disappoint in that respect.,
I've been left in 2 minds now. it is good car, but the mpg and performance leave alot to be desired.
At 30K i'd rather get a lightly used XF.
i'm tempted to up the budget alittle and get something alittle different.

A remap should cure the issues with the EcoBoost. Like the old Duratecs, they run like ass on the Ford map - even a conservative map from the likes of Superchips can make a huge difference.
I got my 1.8 Duratec remapped by Superchips, and it goes better than the similar aged 2 litre Duratecs we have at work.
