Just wondering if there are any known faults with this engine ? Partner will be into the 2nd year of a mental health nursing degree in the summer an will be looking at a 80 mile commute each day so we were looking to replace the 2ltr 01 mondeeo with a 03/4 ish tdci but looking on ebay there seems to be lots of cars spares/repairs etc with "slight engine fault" ??? just wondered if there was anything to look out for as there seems to be lots of 5-6 yr old cars with not too many miles but lots of problems

Avoid the 2.0TDCI - it's a world of hurt when it goes wrong.

The old 1.8TDCI in the Focus is a lot more reliable.

Have to agree. When the 2.0 runs right it is a fantastic engine. When it goes wrong it's mainly some part of the fuel system which is mega bucks and not really worth doing most of the time IMHO.I think this is the main reason that lateish Mondeo Tdci's can be picked up for pittance.

The Focus 1.8 TDCI may be more reliable but they are horrible lumps to drive.

If it helps at all I have done about 45k miles between 2 mondeo 2.0tdci 130`s and had no faults at all. Lovely torquey engine and economical too (I also had a 140 pd passat which was about 5-10 mpg worse on economy)
