Hi all,

My brother has a Mk4 Fiesta facelift and has all of a sudden developed a some sort of fuel problem. The inside stinks of fuel, to point which is undrinkable due to the smell (ignoring the safety side). It particularly smells more in the rear of the car more so than the front (fuel tank in the rear?). I'm going to walk down the local garage tomorrow (not going to risk driving) and get them to come hopefully come and have a look but was wondering if anyone had any idea of what it could be otherwise?

Thanks all, 43034. thumbup

Lift the rear bench seat and make sure the grommet for the wiring is properly in place, if it is it's possible the seal for the sender unit has degraded. Hopefully it's the former as getting to the tank is difficult - you have to drop the tank, no fancy access panels... Worth getting under the car and making sure it's not leaking around the filter too.

Thanks for that thumbup

Took it too the garage and the no fault was found. The tank was brimmed the day before the smell started which doesn't usually happen (he's a teenager after all!).

The mechanic thought it was coming from a vent on the fuel tank or something. He explained it to my mum and she is crap and passing on what he said! frown

No problem. That's right, there's a little rubber pipe that comes out of the tank and clips on to the top of the tank. I'll try and dig out a picture of when I pulled the tank down on mine to show you. If it's only I slight smell I wouldn't worry too much, you'd know about it if you have a proper fuel leak!

See circled, the vent pipe clips into the white clip. And yes, all that work to to get to the fuel pump!
