Oil usage in a Puma
Discussion
What is acceptable for the puma in terms of using up the oil. I'm getting a little nervous about how much mine seems to be drinking now. I haven't actually worked it out but I would take a guess at 1 litre per 1000 miles. It could even be worse than that but I hope not. It's not smokey or anything, not that I can see anyway.
TIA

Mine's just ticked over to 134k. Bought it at 131k and did an oilchange almost immediately - it hasn't used a drop since. So it seems they don't all use oil at high mileages I'm afraid.
I wouldn't worry too much about it though if it's not smoking. Definitely keep on top of it though! Do you do your own oilchanges?

If internet wisdom is to be believed, it's imporant that the Puma is given 5w30 semi-synth. I've read that they don't react well to 10w40.I asked if you do your own changes because some garages have an enormous drum of standard 10w40 out the back that gets used in everything, including their tea!

Ahhh, no worries then. Have you asked thw guys there? I'm sure a quick phone query wouldn't be a problem if they know you're an existing customer - might help put your mind at rest a little. If it helps at all my old clio used to burn about half a litre per 1k miles, and I still see that knocking around the place...
