Hi folks, does anyone know how high a mk2 xr2 (cvh, same as xr3 i think) engine should rev? Also if anyone has one, a standard dyno curve would be even more help. The reason being I have just re-built a head (2x bent/snapped valves) and bow its back together it does not want to rev over 5k (will creep to 5.5k) and feels like it has a severe drop in power here, yet I was under the impression it should manage closer to 6k.

All help appreciated and thanks in advance.

Are you sure on the cam timing being correct, as one tooth out may give you symtoms you are experiencing. What aout ignition timing? Is that correct too?

My timing light was not working so I had to etch a line to put it back into position. So it could well be the timing, but still, a standard curve would be usefull though. The car will be off to be dyno'd next weekend and have all the timing set correctly, but I would like to make sure it is a close to standard as possible (it is a race car afterall)

Cant help with the curve, although a 'race blueprinted' engine should rev well beyond where you are now. I would still look at timing. I guess the spec of the engine is the same as before the valve problems? To be honest a standard torque curve will be no good to an engine with a different cam, CR, timing etc.

The engine must be standard so yes it is still the same spec. Timing will be sorted (hopefully) next weekend. But something to judge it against would be ideal. All I have to go on atm is what "Puma race engines" once said and the original 96@6000 rpm and whatever its torque figure is.

Dave Walker from Emerald used to run a stock hatch XR, might be some stuff on his website.
